Our second visitor from Cali

My sister, Truc, came to visit us this past week...4 1/2 days to be exact. Although Oklahoma doesn't compare to her recent and super fabulous trip to Costa Rica, we did our best to show her our neck of the woods. Here's what Truc had to say about OK (additional comments in parentheses are from me):

First impression of Tulsa: Its so green AND flat. (Truc came during the best time of year, late Spring when things are very green and the average temp is 80 degrees and low humidity. We've been getting rain and thunderstorms 2 to 3 days a week and sunshine the rest of the time)

Most memorable moment during visit: BBQing at the house. Things are always so rush-rush in my life so it was nice to just relax to some good food and company. (Will finally got the gas grill he's been talking about for the past year or two. We had some steak, super sweet corn on the cob, and watermelon to top off our meal)

Things not to do again: Get sick... I dont know what is in the Oklahoma air. (Truc was out for a day because of all the vegetation we have here in OK. It is said that if you don't have allergies, you will find a tree or plant you're allergic to in OK...Truc sure did!)

Favorite place you ate at: Casa de Lewis, really. Let's just say Oklahoma does not come to mind when I think about food. (We have yet to find a restaurant that we are extremely impressed with here. If you want Asian food, it's even worse! Luckily, I've had a chance to really fine tune my cooking skills over the past few months)

Favorite thing you did: Drive around town, running errands with Diem. (Truc got a glimpse of what my life is like as a stay-at-home mom. We had a chance to tour the town and just hang out as sisters throughout the day, something we haven't had a chance to do in a really long time)

Recommendations for other visitors: For the animal lovers: prepare to see a lot of dead animals on the roads. For the foodies: try to get home-cooked meals.

Truc did get sick on the day of Crawfest. So while she rested and dosed up on Sudafed, Will, Mylani and I had to go check out our first Crawfish boil. It was held at Herbert's Specialty Meat Market and boy was it a busy place. We had plenty of cajun flavored crawfish, corn and potatoes, skewered shrimp, sausage dogs, red beans and rice and my favorite, bread pudding.

Thanks Truc for coming and spending time with us...we miss you already!
